1. Introduction

Welcome to Start Here Tech (“Start Here Tech,” “the Platform,” “we,” “us,” or “our“), an independent educational technology platform providing structured online learning, course materials, quizzes, tutorials, and related resources in engineering, computing, data analytics, artificial intelligence, renewable energy, and related fields.

These Terms & Conditions (“Terms“) govern your access to and use of the Start Here Tech website, learning management system, and all associated content and services (collectively, the “Services“).

By creating an account, enrolling in a course, accessing course materials, completing a quiz, or otherwise using the Services, you (“User,” “Student,” or “you“) agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree to these Terms, you should not create an account or use the Services.

Start Here Tech is an independent educational platform and is not, unless expressly stated otherwise, owned, operated, endorsed, or administered by any university, department, government agency, or other educational institution. Where a course or learning material relates to a course taught at an educational institution, such reference does not by itself constitute institutional endorsement, accreditation, or responsibility for the Platform.

These Terms should be read together with our Privacy Policy and any additional terms, rules, or instructions that may apply to specific courses, assessments, or features of the Services.

2. User Registration

To access most course content, you must create an account. When registering, you agree to:

Provide accurate, current, and complete information and keep it updated;
Keep your login credentials confidential and be responsible for activity conducted through your account;
Notify us promptly if you suspect unauthorized access to your account.
Maintain only one account per person unless we authorize otherwise.

Start Here Tech is generally intended for users aged 16 and above. If you are under 18, you confirm that you have the involvement or consent of a parent or guardian where required by applicable law.

We may suspend or terminate an account that contains false information, is used to violate these Terms, or poses a reasonable risk to the security or proper operation of the Services.

3. Course Access and Use

3.1 Registration and access to Start Here Tech’s Phase 1 courses are currently free. Any future paid courses will be subject to the pricing and payment terms displayed at the time of enrolment.

3.2 Course content is provided for your personal, non-commercial, educational use. You may not share your account credentials or provide your course access to another person.

3.3 Some courses may correspond to courses taught at the Federal University of Technology, Minna, or other educational institutions. Where an instructor has stated that quizzes or assessments completed on Start Here Tech contribute to official coursework or continuous assessment, relevant results may be shared with the instructor for that purpose. Start Here Tech is a learning and assessment-support platform and is not a university’s official academic records system. Official grades, academic standing, examinations, and academic disputes remain subject to the relevant institution’s rules and procedures.

3.4 Some course content may unlock progressively. For example, a quiz may become available only after the associated lesson has been completed. These access controls are intentional features of the learning design.

3.5 Some quizzes may be timed or subject to integrity controls, including detecting when a user navigates away from or minimizes the quiz window during an attempt. Such monitoring is limited to the relevant assessment session and is described in our Privacy Policy. Attempting to bypass, disable, or interfere with these controls is prohibited under Section 6 of these Terms.

4. Payments and Refunds

4.1 Registration and access to Start Here Tech’s Phase 1 courses are currently free of charge.

4.2 If paid courses or other paid services are introduced in the future, applicable prices, payment terms, and any refund or cancellation conditions will be clearly stated before purchase.

4.3 Payments for paid Services may be processed through Paystack or another licensed payment processor. Start Here Tech does not store users’ full card or bank details where payment is processed by a third-party payment provider.

4.4 We reserve the right to change the prices of paid services. Any applicable price will be clearly displayed before purchase.

5. Intellectual Property

5.1 All original course materials made available through Start Here Tech, including video lectures, lecture notes, slides, worked examples, quiz questions, calculators, interactive tools, and other educational content, are the intellectual property of Start Here Tech and/or its instructors and are protected by applicable copyright laws.

5.2 Access to a course grants you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the course materials for your personal, non-commercial educational purposes. You may not:

reproduce, redistribute, resell, publicly post, or share course materials outside the Platform;
download or copy materials except where downloading is expressly enabled for personal study;
use course materials to train, fine-tune, or evaluate artificial intelligence or machine-learning models; or
remove copyright, attribution, or branding notices from the materials.

5.3 The Start Here Tech name, logo, and brand identity may not be used without our prior written permission.

5.4 Third-party materials referenced, embedded, or linked through the Platform remain the property of their respective owners and are subject to their applicable licenses or terms of use.

6. User Responsibilities (Acceptable Use)

By using the Services, you agree to:

provide accurate information and keep your account credentials secure;
complete quizzes, assignments, and other assessments honestly and independently, in accordance with the requirements of the relevant course;
not bypass, disable, manipulate, or interfere with quiz timers, lockdown features, or other assessment-integrity controls;
not upload or transmit unlawful, harmful, defamatory, or copyright-infringing content;
not harass, impersonate, or interfere with other users or instructors; and
comply with applicable laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Violation of these requirements may result in a warning, temporary suspension, or termination of your account. Where an assessment forms part of an institution’s coursework, violations may also be reported to the relevant instructor or institution and may be subject to that institution’s academic-integrity procedures.

7. Educational Content Disclaimer

7.1 We prepare course materials with reasonable care and, where appropriate, reference credible academic and industry sources. However, we do not guarantee that all content is complete, current, or error-free. We may update or correct content from time to time.

7.2 Use of Start Here Tech does not guarantee any particular grade, examination result, certification, employment opportunity, or career outcome.

7.3 Where a course relates to an official course at an educational institution, the institution’s curriculum, examinations, grading criteria, and academic regulations take precedence over content provided on Start Here Tech.

7.4 The Platform may contain links to or references to third-party websites, tools, videos, datasets, or other resources. We do not control and are not responsible for the content, accuracy, availability, or practices of third-party resources.

8. Privacy

8.1 We collect and process personal data necessary to operate the Services, including registration information, course progress, quiz attempts and scores, and, where applicable, technical information generated during monitored assessments, such as tab-switch or window-focus events.

8.2 Personal data is processed in accordance with our Privacy Policy and applicable Nigerian data protection laws, including the Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023.

8.3 Access to student information and assessment results is restricted to authorized instructors and administrators where necessary for the operation of the services, course delivery, assessment, or academic administration.

8.4 For details about the personal data we collect, how it is used, retained, and protected, and your applicable data-protection rights, please refer to our Privacy Policy.

9. Limitation of Liability

9.1 The Services are provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. We do not guarantee that the Platform will always be available, uninterrupted, secure, or error-free.

9.2 To the maximum extent permitted by applicable Nigerian law, Start Here Tech and its instructors will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential loss or damage arising from or related to your use of, or inability to use, the Services.

9.3 Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited under Nigerian law.

9.4 We are not responsible for loss or disruption caused by circumstances beyond our reasonable control, including internet or telecommunications failures, third-party service outages, or other events outside our reasonable control.

10. Changes to These Terms

10.1 We may update these Terms from time to time to reflect changes to the Platform, our Services, or applicable laws.

10.2 The updated Terms will be published on this page with a revised Last Updated date. Where changes are material, we will make reasonable efforts to notify registered users through email or an appropriate notice on the platform.

10.3 Your continued use of the Services after updated Terms take effect constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms. If you do not agree with the revised terms, you should stop using the services.
